New Directors Appointed to the Board of the Alliance of Legal Document Assistant Professionals

Sacramento, CA, February 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Alliance of Legal Document Assistant Professionals (ALDAP), a non-profit organization established in 2007 to further the legal document assistant (LDA) and paralegal professions, has announced the appointment of two new Directors. Cara Gould has been appointed to the position of Secretary, and Jeffrey Corcoran has been appointed Director of Legislative Compliance & Ethics.

ALDAP Secretary Cara Gould brings over 14 years of legal experience to the association. After working as a paralegal for a general practitioner attorney, Gould established her own independent legal document service in 1996, specializing in family law matters. She registered as a legal document assistant (LDA) when the new law took effect in 2000. She holds a Paralegal Certificate from the San Joaquin College of Law. She brings three years of LDA association management experience to ALDAP, having served on CALDA’s board of directors for three years.

Jeffrey Corcoran, ALDAP’s new Director of Legislative Compliance & Ethics, holds an ABA Approved Paralegal Degree from Cuyamaca College, with Honors. While in college, he served as President of the Cuyamaca Association of Paralegal Student (CAPS) and was honored with the East County Development Council Outstanding Student Award, the first time any student within the school’s Paralegal Studies program received it. In addition to his work as an LDA and freelance paralegal, Corcoran has been a professional computer technician with his own business since July 1998. He holds a strong belief in doing what is right rather than what is easy and applies this to everything he does.

“Through the Board of Directors, its subcommittees and the association’s strategic plan, ALDAP is addressing the most critical issues facing the access to justice crisis and the availability of non-attorney, self-help legal resources,” said Kathleen Mountjoy, co-founder and president of the association. “The Board of Directors is dedicated to furthering ALDAP’s commitment to professional integrity and consumer protection for all self-represented litigants.”

ALDAP is a California non-profit, mutual benefit corporation serving registered Legal Document Assistants and freelance paralegal/LDA dual-professionals. ALDAP’s mission is to promote the LDA profession by providing seminars for continuing legal education, strengthening professional status by establishing and promoting support for professional standards and regulatory compliance, and communicating with the legal community and the general public.
