Grid-Tools to Speak at the STAREAST 2009 Conference on Test Data Generation Techniques.
Grid-Tools Technical Director, Huw Price, scheduled to speak at STAREAST 2009 in Orlando, Florida May 7th.
Orlando, FL, February 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Grid-Tools Limited, a leading vendor of data creation, test data management and information lifecycle management software is pleased to announce its Technical Director, Huw Price, will be speaking at the STAREAST software testing conference May 4-8, 2009 in Orlando, Florida. Huw will be speaking on new methodologies in software testing automation, specifically test data generation. The topic of his presentation will be ‘Using data objects to create effective test data’.
Huw plans to explain the concept of test “data objects,” (an approach he uses to create high quality test data and eliminate the need to access live production data for testing). Data objects are abstractions of the data that capture the essence of a data type that can be quickly assembled to support specific tests. With definitive examples, Huw will demonstrate how to create basic “data objects” using data sampling and then expand to more complex objects using “data inheritance”, which varies the data to satisfy specific testing needs. Attendees will learn about test data selection techniques—such as All-Pairs, cause and effect, randomization, and probability distribution, to build high quality sets of data. Huw believes his approach will help testers spend less time creating data and spend more time finding defects.
An evangelical yet academic approach
Huw Price stated, “The general belief in the industry is that creating and using synthetic test data is too complicated, and the data cannot possibly be business intact nor have the referential integrity of production systems. This is simply not true. The methods are easy and effective. It is also an indisputable fact in this industry that the quality of the data testers are using will have a direct affect on the results of the testing. It is my belief that the traditional methods for creating test data are too outdated, error prone, time consuming and laborious. They are also generally ineffective. This presentation will present attendees with a much better alternative”.
Huw’s presentation will take place on Thursday, May 7th at 1:30pm. The STAREAST conference will be taking place May 4-8, 2009 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida.
