Betty Belts Receives 2008 Environmental Excellence Award City of Ventura Honors Locally-Based Accessories Company
Ventura-based accessories company receives 2008 Environmental Excellence Award from City of Ventura for encompassing the mentality as well as best business practices and choices for not just the environment, but also social equity and economic sustainability.
Ventura, CA, February 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Ventura-based, Betty Belts was honored last month with the 2008 Environmental Excellence Award from the City of Ventura.
Betty Belts is an independent small business, founded and owned by Donna von Hoesslin, a passionate surfer and businesswoman who designs and oversees the manufacture of unique handmade belts, jewelry and other accessories.
Mayor of Ventura, Christy Weir, surprised von Hoesslin at the ceremony last month by wearing one of her necklaces for the occasion. The necklace has since been dubbed “The Mayor's necklace” by local friends and fans.
“I'm so grateful to receive recognition in my own community for something I've believed in for so long,” said von Hoesslin. “The real focus of my company since day one has been to operate in an eco- and socially conscious way. I couldn't imagine running a business any other way.”
The City’s Environmental Services Department is responsible for reviewing the nominations for this award and choosing a winner. Joey Briglio, the City’s Environmental Specialist, said of von Hoesslin and her business, “We selected Betty Belts because they truly encompass the mentality as well as best business practices and choices. From start to finish, Donna is taking into account not just the environment, but also social equity and economic sustainability.”
About the Environmental Excellence Award: Every year since 1997, the Ventura Chamber of Commerce has hosted the Poinsettia Awards Luncheon — an event which recognizes the outstanding community and business leaders of Ventura, CA. The award features our local Green Heroes — those projects, programs, businesses and organizations that exemplify environmental care, concern, initiative and improvement.
