Ellett Valley Group Designs the 4500 Series User-Configurable DOCSIS Return Path Modules

The Ellett Valley Group announces the new 4500 Series DOCSIS Digital Return System. Designed to meet or exceed today’s system demands for flexible configuration, the modules operate with existing RF return paths.

Blacksburg, VA, February 23, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The new 4500 Series DOCSIS Digital Return System addresses today’s system demands for flexible configuration of optical transmission wavelengths as well as remote monitoring and control. Designed to operate with existing RF return paths, the 5-65MHz analog bandwidth allows the DOCSIS return system to be used worldwide. The modules can be configured as transceivers to make full use of the Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) payload capacity or as a unidirectional product. The basic design can be easily modified to include 10/100Mbps Ethernet and control or status monitoring information.

Ready for immediate licensing, the fully developed design interconnects directly with existing DOCSIS return path signals; each board digitally multiplexes two (2) return paths, a 10/100Mbps Ethernet connection and two (2) 1Mbps asynchronous control/monitoring signals. The boards are suitable for use in all industry standard enclosures, including stand-alone housings, any rack-mount configuration or indoor/outdoor enclosures. This greatly reduces engineering time and overhead, and speeds the product’s time-to-market.

Able to meet today’s DOCSIS return path applications, the design also allows the units to be upgraded easily, using SFP modules, allowing the units to be used with future DOCSIS applications. The use of SFP modules dramatically reduces the cost of the optical components involved and allows maximum flexibility as SFP modules are readily available in wavelengths from 850nm multimode modules to ITU Grid spaced DWDM modules. These modules are field installable so that wavelengths are easily changed as the need arises. Use of a proprietary digital gain control algorithm extends the RF input dynamic range to the 4500 series by 10dB.
