Carolina Parenting Inc. Accepts Nominations for Family-Friendly 50 Awards

Durham, NC, February 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- North Carolina companies are encouraged to submit nominations for Carolina Parenting Inc.’s 11th annual awards program for family-friendly companies, which recognizes businesses of all sizes that help employees balance the demands of work and family life. Nominations are due April 1, 2009.

Carolina Parenting plans to recognize 50 companies this year, an increase from the previous years’ 40 honorees.

“During the last several years, we witnessed an increase in the number of companies touting family-friendly benefits, from flexible work arrangements such as telecommuting and compressed work weeks to time off for volunteering and health and wellness programs,” said Mark Ethridge, president of Carolina Parenting Inc., which publishes Carolina Parent in the Triangle, Charlotte Parent in the Charlotte Metro area and Piedmont Parent in the Triad area.

“With the current economic downturn, providing support for working parents becomes even more necessary as employees struggle to balance the increased demands of potentially stressful workplaces,” Ethridge said. “We want to share creative ways companies are helping their employees and continue to recognize the good work being done by North Carolina employers."

Employees can submit a short nomination form online at one of Carolina Parenting’s three Web sites: www.carolinaparent.com, www.charlotteparent.com or www.piedmontparent.com.

Family-friendly features may include, but are not limited to: flexible work hours, work-at-home options, child-care benefits, health care coverage, and maternity and paternity leaves. The award seeks to recognize innovation as well.

The University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School is partnering with Carolina Parenting to review the nominations and finalize the list of 50 companies to be honored in 2009.

These companies will be recognized in all three of Carolina Parenting’s publications and honored in September at a Women@Work event in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill and a Moms@Work event in Charlotte.

Companies that have been nominated and/or recognized in the past are encouraged to apply again this year.
