John Daly’s Protégé Opens Independent Shingle
New Independent Film Production & Distribution company started by the late John Daly's protege will offer the John Daly Memorial Film Student Grant and continue John's legacy of truly independent film.
Los Angeles, CA, February 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Tim Shiner, the late John Daly’s (Terminator, Platoon, The Last Emperor) protégé has opened his own shingle in homage to his mentor. An independent production, distribution and development company with an eye towards more spiritual projects, has announced that “Dustbingate” a project both Mr. Shiner & Mr. Daly were working on together will continue.
“Although this workplace comedy isn’t necessarily spiritual, it has a personal meaning to me, my mentor and friend loved the script as it dealt with the “Underdog” taking on the giant (not only the Press, but politicians as well) and coming out on top. The truly inspirational part of this project is that it is a true story. It has been all but banned from production in the UK! The book ‘Dustbingate’ has been a best seller in England and is due to be set for another printing,” Mr. Shiner stated. “Dustbingate” has been compared with “Slumdog Millionaire” insomuch as it deals with the little guy winning. The success of “Slumdog” and “Full Monty” puts “Dustbingate” in a very select category, small independent films with a broad appeal. Ian Newton, author of the book and screenwriter for the film said, "I am really looking forward to working with Oak Leaf. It is a passionate team who understand ‘Dustbingate’s’ ethos and the potential of the project."
Oak Leaf Entertainment, Inc., a California corporation will also be distributing several home entertainment titles in niche markets; including Quincy Coleman: It’s all in the Song, a music doc and Ghosts of the Queen Mary, a look at the incredible late psychic Peter James’ tour of one of the most haunted places on earth, all will be available through online portals in both DVD and downloadable formats as well as local stores.
On the developmental side, Oak Leaf is working on several projects, “The Ghost & The Gangster,” based on the afterlife of the psychic Peter James and his friendship with a mobster with a heart of gold; and “Mrs. Jenkin’s Son,” story by Sherman Augustus and Tim Cogshell, penned by Tim Cogshell, a thought provoking look into the return of a soldier from war and his aiding several young wayward kids, in the process of healing himself. Scribe Tim Cogshell said, “We couldn't possibly be more excited about Oak Leaf coming on-line, or about being a part of its slate. It's very seldom that a filmmaker finds a Producer who not only really understands their material, but contributes to the crafting of the film from start to finish. It's an amazing time for all of us." Sherman Augustus; actor, producer and former professional athlete replied, "When we started working on the concept for Ms. Jenkin's Son we new we'd need a Producer who could see past the usual Hollywood concerns and actually 'feel' the soul and spirit of the film we knew we wanted to make. Tim Shiner and the team at Oak Leaf got it... from page one. Hollywood just became a better place to be."
“In honor of the memory of John, Oak Leaf Entertainment will be offering the John Daly Memorial Grant to students of independent film. Each year the cash grant will be awarded to a student who demonstrates a truly independent spirit,” said Tim. More information on the grant and applications for it are forthcoming.
