Keeping Youth Sports in Perspective: Author/Youth Coach Publishes Great New Fictional Basketball Book for Teens
Crystal Lake, IL, March 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- First time author Dave Giffels has astounded the literary world by writing a book directed toward early teens, and has captured the hearts of many parents and coaches alike. Giffels published the book through LuLu.com, the online marketplace for digital content.
Mr. Giffels, a sales and marketing professional, utilized his idle time while traveling for business to write his 226 page fictional novel “Like Brothers”. He started the project as a way to get some of his thoughts and beliefs about youth athletics written down as an example of what youth sports should be all about. From there it evolved into an incredibly heartwarming adventure for a 7th grade boy and his basketball team.
Kathy Repholz comments “We are living in a society where too often coaches, parents, and kids lose the true meaning of sports and being on a team. There are so many positive things that youth sports offer like friendships, sportsmanship, hard work, leadership, and learning how to win and lose with dignity. Dave Giffels has truly captured this in his book “Like Brothers”. My 13 year old son had a hard time putting the book down, reading it in two days. He and a few of his friends have read it and have done book reports on it. I was pleasantly surprised to see the many great messages and life lessons he obtained from the book.”
Mr. Giffels has taken his background of playing sports and coaching his kids and turned them into a wonderful story filled with lots of basketball action and a great example of a team that comes together like a family. Many long hours on airplanes and in hotel rooms were put into the creation of this book. The project took eighteen months from start to finish. His passion for youth sports is truly evident as you make your way through the book.
Mr. Giffels says: “I started the novel as a way to pass the time while on business trips. After a while, it became a fun way to get my ideas and philosophies on youth sports together in an entertaining story. As I was writing the book, I would periodically let my eleven year old son read it and provide feedback. He was a great sounding board as the story developed. It’s been very rewarding to see his friends and many other kids read the book and express how much they liked it.”
