South Coast Bayern U10 Girls Take Runner-Up in the CSL/US Club California Cup Finals
SC Bayern G98 Girls Finish Second in San Bernardino, CA Club Soccer Tournament.
Huntington Beach, CA, March 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- South Coast Bayern’s U10 Girls team advanced all the way to the finals match of The CSL/US Club California Cup on Saturday, February 28 before falling 3-0 to Claremont Stars. The second place finish gave South Coast Bayern three outstanding Cal Cup showings in their girls under 9, 10, and 11 divisions; taking first, second, and tied for fifth, respectively.
SC Bayern’s U10 girls advanced to the finals by beating LB Supreme Speed Demons earlier in the day in what was one of the more exciting finishes of the weekend. After a scoreless first half, the teams erupted with a flurry of goal exchanges that left everyone watching breathless. Bayern went up 1-0 early in the second half on a goal by Emily Davis, but LB Supreme Speed Demons tied it minutes later at 1-1. SC Bayern’s Kassidy Burns powered it through the goalies hands to make it 2-1 until the Speed Demons again knotted the score, 2-2.
With 10 minutes remaining in the game Davis made a move to get behind the defenders and buried the shot into the far bottom corner to make it 3-2 South Coast Bayern G98.
Behind great performances--from Burns, Kaitlin Sung and Hannah Wilson among others--the defense and midfielders rejected the LB Supreme Speed Demons advances to hold on for a berth in the Cal Cup finals.
Addressing the champion Claremont Stars at the award ceremonies Saturday afternoon, South Coast Bayern Director of Soccer Development Bobby Bruch said, “You are a great team and champion. We only hope that our team can continue to get better, so in the future we can match the awesome play and intensity you displayed today.”
In other South Coast Bayern news Saturday, the Girls U11 team went into halftime down 1-0 but ultimately fell to South Bay Force Blue 4-0, ending the soccer club’s quest for three finals appearances by its girls U9-U11 teams.
