Interstate Distributor Co. and Atlas Work to Reduce Driver Discomfort and Injuries
Grand Haven, MI, July 12, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Interstate Distributor Company (Tacoma, WA) announced today that it will work with Atlas Ergonomics (Grand Haven, MI) in an innovative, multi-phase initiative to maximize the comfort, health and safety of Interstate’s 3,000 truck drivers.
The two organizations will implement Atlas’ proven technology to help drivers reduce discomfort, fatigue, and the risk of injury by using existing seat and steering column adjustments to their fullest potential. Atlas will provide the technology, infrastructure and training to enable Interstate’s safety personnel to work directly with their drivers.
“Drivers are the foundation of our business,” stated Tammy Warn, Vice President of Risk Management for Interstate. “We already invest in world-class seating to help our drivers, but until now, we have not realized the full benefit of our investment. When we reviewed the discomfort reduction data obtained from thousands of drivers within the industry, the decision to work with Atlas was clear. Working with Atlas each driver will understand how to customize seat and steering column settings to minimize the impact of the road on their bodies.”
Ms. Warn went on to say, “Our strategy is two-fold. Our team will first drive down general discomfort through the training and fitting process. We will then monitor the discomfort of our drivers on an ongoing basis and work with those drivers who still have discomfort. We will provide support before an injury occurs, helping our drivers and the company perform better.”
Interstate and Atlas are currently in the planning and preparation phase. Implementation of the initiative is scheduled to start in early September with primary results expected in April 2007.
