8fish is the Producer of Maverik’s Successful Kick Start TV Show
Sandy, Utah-based creative agency produces adventure reality show to cleverly promote large convenience store chain.
Sandy, UT, March 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Maverik, a western convenience store chain with over 200 stores in seven states, turned to the creative talent and expertise of Sandy, Utah-based agency 8fish to produce an innovative approach to marketing, Kick Start. The show began airing in May 2008.
Kick Start is a high-flying, on-the-edge weekly reality show that promotes the Maverik convenience store chain by cleverly blending advertising with entertainment, involving brands and products that are complementary with the show’s adventure-related theme.
“Kick Start blends advertising with entertainment by involving brands and products that are congruent with the entertainment,” says Ernie Harker, Kick Start producer and President of 8fish. “It makes for better advertising because we see the brand or product as part of the entertainment instead of an interruption.” A variety of sponsors teamed up with Maverik to produce the 20 episodes that make up a full season. In return, each sponsor received valuable product placement during the show.

Maverik and Kick Start were featured as the cover story in the January 2009 issue of Convenience Store/Petroleum—a leading industry publication: “Maverik does nothing small, nothing halfway. … no other convenience retailer has created—or, it could be argued, is capable of creating—its own stand-alone TV show in hopes of selling more candy bars and bags of chips.”
CSPTV, the first and only regularly scheduled online video news program in the convenience-retailing channel, also featured Kick Start in a January 19, 2009 episode, exploring how the show has impacted Maverik’s business.
