Legendary Bluesman Willie Dixon's Legacy is Alive and Well in His Grandson, Alex Dixon
Alex Dixon teamed up with musical greats for his newest CD release titled "Rising From The Bushes" due out April 28th 2009 on iTunes and other digital download sites. The CD features Marcella Detroit (power vocalist in UK pop group Shakespeare's Sister), drummer James Gadson (Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles and countless others), bassist Gerald Johnson (Steve Miller Band, Crosby Stills & Nash), to name a few. This CD is packed something for everyone...blues, rock and R&B.
Los Angeles, CA, March 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- "The Blues are the Roots of all American Music," words often proclaimed by the legendary blues musician Willie Dixon. The Dixon legacy lives on in his grandson Alex Dixon, who is releasing his upcoming CD titled "Rising From The Bushes" on April 28th! This is the most highly anticipated album to come out of the Dixon catalog since his grandfather released "I Am The Blues" in 1970.
Just as "I Am The Blues" included hits such as "Back Door Man," "Hoochie Coochie Man," "Little Red Rooster" and "Spoonful," Alex's "Rising From The Bushes" is sure to generate some hits of its own. To fulfill this task, Alex called on some musical greats to complement his piano melodies. These greats include one of the greatest timekeepers of the past forty-plus years, drummer James Gadson, who recorded with groups/musicians such as The Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band, Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Paul McCartney and Justin Timberlake. Bassist Gerald Johnson is another amazing talent that added to the rhythm section. Gerald recorded and/or toured with the Sweet Inspirations, Greg Allman, Dave Mason, Les Dudek, Steve Miller, Crosby Stills and Nash and The Pointer Sisters. When one sees and hears Gerald play, there is no mistaking that his is an undeniable presence, a truly unique voice, an irresistible groove. The thick, funky bass lines are laid down by one of rock music’s most unique voices of the bass guitar. Another recognizable force is that of vocalist Marcy Levy (aka Marcella Detroit) who is famed for her amazing vocal talents with Eric Clapton, Shakespeare's Sister and Bob Segar. Also rounding up the talents are drummer Alvino Bennett (Koko Taylor, Dave Mason Band), and guitarist/vocalist Alan Mirikitani (aka BB Chung King), who might not yet have the recognition that he deserves, but will after the release of this CD. David Dills, who offered his vocals on several of the tracks, is another one to look out for.
Alex Dixon is the only producer/musician/writer to come out of the Dixon family since his grandfather, Willie Dixon. With the talent that he brought along to create his "Rising From The Bushes," Alex is sure to bring a new generation to the Blues. Look for the CD to be released on April 28th, 2009.
Another release available from Dixon Landing Music is "FREAK" by vocalist/guitarist Zach Prather. After several years of playing with artists such as Cash McCall, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Luther Allison, Etta James and Willie Dixon, Zach Prather has 4 CD's under his belt. But, none can compare to his most recent release titled "FREAK." Already getting rave reviews from the likes of Living Blues Magazine and Southland Blues Magazine, it is just the beginning for this musical creation. "His sound is a wonderful blend of funk, soul, and blues with a modern twist," states Mark Camarigg of Living Blues Magazine. "He's got the chops, the voice, and the funk to garner a wide and modern blues audience." You can download your copy of "FREAK" on iTunes and Amazon.
