Increased Veterans Benefit Helps Pay for In-Home Care
Senior Helpers partners with Veterans-Express to help with application process.
Towson, MD, March 13, 2009 --(PR.com)-- There is good news for the families for America’s veterans who are struggling to care for their elderly loved ones as well as cope with the nation’s deepening recession. The Veterans Administration has increased its payment in the Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit. Senior Helpers, the fastest growing provider of in home senior care, believes the increased benefit will help tens of thousands of families because there are 23.5 million veterans of all ages across the nation.
“This is a little known benefit that can make a huge difference in improving the quality of life for the nation’s elderly veterans,” says Peter Ross, CEO and founder of Senior Helpers. “Most Veterans who need assistance qualify for this benefit, because the Aid and Assistance program is a pension benefit and is not dependent on service related injuries.”
In 2009, a Veteran is eligible for up to $1,644 per month from the VA; a couple can qualify for up to $1,949 per month. Both amounts are an increase of $100 over last year. A surviving spouse is eligible for up to $1,056 per month, an increase of almost $60 from last year.
“This benefit can make a huge difference in improving the lives of senior veterans as well as help them maintain their independence,” adds Ross.
Consider:
Veterans make up 8% of the U.S. population, 23.5 million people.
One quarter of the population, 70 million people, are eligible for benefits because they are veterans, family members or survivors of veterans.
More than 9 million veterans are age 65 or older. Many older veterans need in home care but they, or their families, can’t afford it.
Senior Helpers partners with Veterans Express, a national nonprofit service, to help families navigate the difficult and complex application process. The free prequalification and application service is available to Veterans who register with home care from Senior Helpers.
