Audio Sensors Foil Attempted ‘Smash and Grab’

Kent, WA, March 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Police arrested four men suspected of breaking the windows of a Kent car audio store to reach inside and take stereo equipment after Sonitrol Pacific audio sensors detected them March 13.

Sonitrol Pacific Operator Marlene Olson received signals from Xtreme Car Audio & Tint’s sound-activated security system and heard noises of breaking glass and multiple voices. She immediately called police and the business owner. Olson continued to monitor the system and heard one suspect urging the others to hurry up and another searching for his crowbar.

The suspects tried to flee when officers arrived, but four were arrested and all the store’s property was returned.

According to police, suspects smashed the store’s windows in an attempt to find a way inside. They eventually gave up and reached in between bars covering the windows to pull items out. The four had more than $4,000 worth of merchandise on them when arrested.
