Re-Launch of Local Organization for Medical Anomalies
The Because I Care Foundation, Inc. is re-organizing to better serve and create awareness for people with Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS) and other similar lymphatic and vascular malformations.
Tempe, AZ, March 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Showing its dedication to caring about children with rare congenital defects across the world, The Because I Care Foundation, Inc. is re-organizing to better serve and create awareness for people with Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS) and other similar lymphatic and vascular malformations.
Based out of Tempe, Arizona, BIC was founded in 2004 and incorporated in 2007 by Sharon Freeman, a mother whose own son was diagnosed with KTS in a three-year battle to discover exactly what condition he had after he was born with a number of abnormalities.
Today, BIC has a volunteer staff of six and has revamped its Web site, www.bic-foundation.org, with even more information on KTS and resources for the medical community.
“One of my biggest goals is to ensure that there would be adequate information available to parents as well as to doctors on KTS and other similar conditions without having to delay care or get improper treatments due to a lack of knowledge,” Sharon said.
In addition to advocating for other families, Sharon has continued her fight to get appropriate care for her child. Both she and her son have appeared on television programs such as the Discovery Health show “Medical Incredible” (2004), Maury Povich Show (2006) and on local news channel Fox 10 (2007, 2008 and 2009). Together, they have shared their story about his condition as well as continued to spread awareness about Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome and the BIC.
Sharon’s story has not been without its twists and turns, as her son lost a portion of his left arm when it had to be amputated due to illnesses in relation to his KTS. In another attempt to reach out to the community, the amputation and story was shared through News Network Fox 10.
Despite the challenges, Sharon’s goal to make information readily available to the general community, as well as to the medical community, is coming into fruition. The foundation is still currently in its infancy, looking to obtain private and corporate sponsorships in addition to public donations to begin its work with the community.
