50-year-old San Diego Manufacturing Firm Sees Bright Spot in the Economy

Smith worked with event planners, Mary Daffin, and Wendy Fresques of Nouvelle Roux to design the line.
She approached Daffin and Fresques 18 months ago with the idea of putting a label in the satin linen products they were already designing for their event company, Nouvelle Roux, Inc.
“These ladies always seemed to be ahead of the curve on color trends and combinations. I thought the branding of the linens would help grow both of our businesses” said Smith. “I quickly realized Mary and Wendy were the trend experts, and we collaborated on a collection event planners could feel comfortable investing in.”
Though Smith admits this is a tough time for event planners, she thinks savvy planners are always looking for a way to set themselves apart and increase revenue.
“Investing in a quality set of commercial linens allows all event planners to showcase their design skills and recoup money on their own linens, instead of renting them,” she says. “After 2-3 events, the linens are paid for, so every future use of them is additional revenue for the event planner. The main challenge then becomes, what color to buy? Mary and Wendy have the answers because they are color trend experts.”
