Grand Rapids, MN, March 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Buckinghams return to Minnesota on Friday, April 17th, to perform in the Greenway High School Auditorium in Coleraine, for the City’s 100th anniversary. Centennial celebration organizers planning the birthday bash invited the band to headline the concert for this historic occasion. The Buckinghams began their career in the 1960s in Chicago as recording artists for Columbia Records, when they became a national act with the success of their first national release, “Kind of a Drag.”
The Buckinghams, who began their careers in Chicago, IL, are best known for Top 10 hits including “Kind of a Drag,” “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song,” “Don’t You Care,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” and “Susan.” Lead singer Carl Giammarese says, “The Buckinghams are pleased to return to Minnesota, and we’ll be performing all our 60s hits, plus songs from Solid Gold favorite bands during that same time.” The group’s latest release, “Reaching Back,” is available nationally on Fuel Records.
The event marks the 100th anniversary of the town built and planned as a ‘model village’ for the mining area. The city was dubbed Coleraine by John C. Greenway, a member of Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, in honor of Oliver Cole, then president of Oliver Mining Company. Greenway was instrumental in developing the Mesabi iron ore range.
The concert in Greenway High School Auditorium begins at 7:30 pm. Bass player Nick Fortuna notes, “The Buckinghams began our career playing for high school dances, so it’s like coming home to playing the Greenway Auditorium for this celebration.” Reserved seating is $30 per ticket, with a Centennial special of 4 tickets available for only $100. The concert begins at 7:30 pm.
