Outskirts Press Releases New Collection of Philosophical Poetry
North Augusta, SC, March 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Life (A Book of Poems) is a recently released collection of poems by Outskirts Press author Angela Renee Lanham, and if the title isn’t clear enough, it’s a look at the world through the eyes of a poet who sees life in a unique and intriguing way. The subject is broad, but so is the wealth of material, and Lanham makes the most of every word.
Life is the sum total of the human experience—we have all felt pain, stress, disappointment, heartache, and even depression, but we also are blessed with love, friendship, enthusiasm, and happiness. Lanham’s collection of poems takes on each of these human experiences and crafts them into living, breathing poems that inspire and enlighten. They speak to the mind, soul, and heart. The following poem, aptly titled “Life,” is an example of the inspirational and thought-provoking verse contained in this collection.
I took a walk with Life one day
and as we walked along the path. I said to Life,
“Why can’t things just go my way?”
Life smiled at me and laughed.
“Why if all things worked out your way,
what lessons could you learn?
For with every obstacle, trial, and triumph
you must face,
everyone has their turn.
Now look at the sun with all its glory and light,
could shine every day and every night,
don’t you think it would?
Or if the rain said, “I never want to stop falling,”
wouldn’t you think it should?
And when the snow comes, do you really think it likes
melting away? For all these things are too relate
to life not going your way.
So learn to look at the beauty in everything
and, my friend, do this all the time.
And the thought of things not going
your way, wouldn’t weigh so heavy on your mind.”
Lanham plans to continue writing poetry and sharing her work with others. “I’ve found that the art of writing is creating, and it allows you to go anywhere you want to go, be anyone you desire to be. It creates a whole new world beyond imagination.”
