Tulsa Web Design Company Rises Amidst Recession

A Tulsa entrepreneur seizes opportunity during an economic crisis.

Tulsa, OK, March 27, 2009 --(PR.com)-- When local entrepreneur Jonathan Cox learned the head of his current marketing firm planned to step back from the business for health reasons, he saw the opportunity to launch his own company, Aqua Vita Creative, a web design and development company.

"Starting a business in this economy has been a little like sitting in a rocket chair: exciting, but scary," said Cox. "I thought it would take at least a year to get to where we're at presently."

With former clients shifting to Aqua Vita Creative and referring their associates, the company has broken even in the first two months without any outbound sales effort.

"There's been a lot of 16-hour days and a lot of coffee during this setup phase, but it's paying off," said Cox.

Other local entrepreneurs are feeling the pressure as well. Bill Mount, a development specialist with the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center, has seen an increase in entrepreneur consultations over the last year, and a shift in urgency.

"Last year it was primarily starting a business on the side, or taking over a family business," said Mount. "It's a little more critical to their livelihood now than it was then."

The changing Tulsa landscape has attracted entrepreneurs and businesses activity in spite of economic conditions, Mount says. "The BOK Center has raised a lot of interest in starting restaurants, small hotels and such in the downtown area."

Local and national entrepreneurs remain optimistic in spite of the difficult market. In a recent survey, seven in 10 entrepreneurs expressed confidence they would ride out the recession, according to the Entrepreneurs' Organization 2009 Global Economic Forecast Survey.

"Play it smart and don't give up hope," said Cox. "Things will turn back around, and the opportunities are still out there. You just have to be diligent, persistent and creative enough to find them."

Aqua Vita Creative is offering a free report on their website, "7 Deadly Website Sins," to help businesses avoid critical mistakes online.
