Community Foundation for Livingston County Awards More Than $5,000 to Pinckney Community Schools
Pinckney, MI, March 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Community Foundation for Livingston County awarded a grant of $5,125 to Pinckney Community Schools to support the continuation of an orchestra education program and annual side-by-side concert with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.
This grant will enable student musicians the opportunity to work with professional musicians and observe the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra’s Saturday morning rehearsals at the Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor. Chamber ensembles from the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, along with Maestro Arie Lipsky, also will visit each of the elementary schools in Pinckney to perform and discuss music with students.
“Participation in the program will allow students to develop technical skills on their instruments, musicianship and ensemble skills, and life skills, such as discipline and teamwork,” said Dr. Nancy Staub, the Assistant Superintendent of Pinckney Community Schools, which has the only in-school orchestra education program in Livingston County. “We look forward to our students continuing to benefit from direct instruction and frequent interaction with the professional musicians.”
The third annual side-by-side concert, featuring the Pinckney Community Schools Orchestra and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, will take place at 7 p.m. on May 14, 2009, at the Jane Tasch Theater. Tickets for the concert can be purchased in advance by calling 810-225-3900. They also will be available at the door the night of the concert.
