About the Author

Canada is Campbell's promise land, her paradise. She has lived in Moncton for the past seven years, a refugee of the civil conflict in Sierra Leone over control of the diamond mines. She lived in the mountain region that saw the worst of the fighting, escaped through the war zone with her three young children, one whom she adopted as her parents were killed in the war, and established herself in Guinea as a refugee. Her determination to survive and emigrate to the western world gave her the strength to survive, and then endure the next difficult stage of her journey when she ended up on a plane bound for Canada on September 11,2001. Since then, she has taught herself English, gotten her GED, earned a Human Service certificate at NBCC, and began a career. That is why Canada is Campbell's “promise land.”
