Underground Cartoonist Hurricane Nancy (http://www.hurricanenancy.com) Kalish Panzika, the first female underground cartoonist from the 1960’s, acknowledged by Trina Robbins as her inspiration to try some of her own strips for the East Village Other is back at work after 40 years.

Clearwater, FL, April 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Underground cartoonist (http://www.hurricanenancy.com) Hurricane Nancy Kalish Panzika is making her original works available for the first time in 40 years. As America’s first female underground cartoonist in the 1960’s, Hurricane Nancy published in the East Village Other (aka EVO), the Gothic Blimp Works and other underground publications in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Hurricane Nancy was a founding member of the It Ain’t Me Babe Collective, the first all female comic book. http://lambiek.net/magazines/wimmenscomix.htm

“After doing so many wonderful things over the past 40 years, I recently became re-interested in my ability to create a valuable communication,” says Nancy. “Underground cartoonists have the ability and position to take on politically incorrect to politically very incorrect subjects and get away with it, and I like that.” says Nancy.

Hurricane Nancy’s innovative work inspired Trina Robbins, biographer of women, cartoons and art, to produce her own strips for publication. Trina acknowledges Hurricane Nancy in her books; “A Century of Women Cartoonists”, “From Girls to Grrrlz: a history of [female] comics from teens to zines”, “Women and the Comics.”

“I have always believed that artists can help change the world. I’d like to see a world without war so at times like this the dreams and creations of artists are more important than ever, and I want to make a difference,” says Nancy.
