Spreading Polar Fever: Arctic Entrepreneur Shares Adventure, Awareness with CEOs at the North Pole

Rick Sweitzer, the founder of The Northwest Passage and Polar Explorers, is leading a group of 20 top-level executives on an adventure to 90 degrees North. The team is comprised of active members of the World Presidents Organization and the Young Presidents Organization who are joining Sweitzer not just for the adventure, but to experience the Arctic environment directly.

Wilmette, IL, April 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Rick Sweitzer has never been one to keep a good thing to himself. Practically from the moment of his first adventure when hit the road at 16, there have been people lining up to go with him. "If you have a clear vision of where you want to go, there's no problem getting others to follow. Though, sometimes, with me, they were a bit surprised at where they ended up."

For this trip to the North Pole, there won't be any surprises. The international group draws from locations around the world, including the States, India, Britain, and other countries. Industries represented include steel manufacturers, computer software producers, and large-scale construction companies, among others.

"Like it or not, business affects the North Pole environment. These people and their peers will be making decisions for their companies which may directly influence what happens at the Poles. The difference will be that they will be crucially aware of the delicate Polar environment and will have much more of a stake in its preservation. They don't want to tell their grandchildren,"Oh, yeah, I went to the North Pole - too bad the ice isn't there anymore for you."

What will the executives experience? "They'll be skiing to the North Pole, experiencing the extreme cold, and challenging themselves in new ways. They will also connect with Berge Ousland, a polar explorer who will address them at the start of the journey and give them additional historic perspective. And, assuming weather conditions permit, they will be arriving at the pole at a thrilling moment - on the anniversary of when Admiral Robert Peary and his black assistant Matthew Henson first reached the Pole in 1909."

2009 also marks something else for Sweitzer - the 25th year of being in the adventure business. He founded The Northwest Passage in 1984, when "Adventure Travel" wasn't even a term. As he began to lead trips to the North and South Poles, he added the polar operations division, Polar Explorers, in 1993. The Northwest Passage now focuses on warmer destinations, and most years, Sweitzer leaves the Polar regions and experiences his own version of global warming - he immediately begins leading warm-water kayaking trips in Greece. "I have time to stop in Chicago, shave off my Arctic beard and remind my family what I look like, then I'm back in a very different world," he says. "It's all good."
