Balfour Beatty's David Preston Inducted Into Constructor Hall of Fame
Dallas, TX, April 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Since 2001, Texas A&M University has honored leaders in the construction industry with its annual Constructor Hall of Fame Award. On March 26, the university inducted David Preston, vice president at Balfour Beatty Construction, into its hall of fame as an industry leader who has significantly influenced the university’s construction science program.
The Hall of Fame Award was created by Texas A&M’s Department of Construction Science and the Construction Industry Advisory Council (CIAC) to honor non-alumni who have made a difference in the industry and have helped advance the construction science program at Texas A&M.
A member of CIAC for more than eight years, David has participated in several of the CIAC’s sub-committees, advising administrators and faculty on contemporary construction issues and influencing the department's strategic direction and course content. In 2005, he helped Texas A&M’s construction science department develop and implement a successful diversity seminar that is still being used today.
A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, in 1977 David joined the Dallas division (then called J.W. Bateson Company) of Balfour Beatty Construction as an estimator. In his 32 years with the company, David worked his way up through the ranks in the field to senior project manager. In the mid-1990s, he shifted his focus to human resources—a decision that led to his involvement in recruiting students from some of the nation’s top construction schools. Today, David serves as vice president of human resources for the company’s corporate shared services group.
Reflecting on what qualifies David as an industry leader, Robert Van Cleave, chairman and CEO of Balfour Beatty Construction, said, “David epitomizes the essence of the Constructor Hall of Fame. For over 30 years, he has contributed at both the operating and human talent level for our company. He has been our ‘face’ at Texas A&M for most of those years, working diligently to ensure that the university has our support, that we pay attention to their academic needs, and that students have advocates in our company and industry.”
