Clickcha - A New Approach to Combat Comment Spam

Clickcha is an innovative CAPTCHA that virtually eliminates automated spam without annoying normal users. Not only is Clickcha more secure, it requires just one click to solve.

Noida, India, April 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Clickcha, the latest release from India-based software company Efextra, is an unique and innovative solution that virtually eliminates automated spam without annoying normal users. Not only is Clickcha more secure, it requires just one click to solve.

One of the major problems for any online service is automated spam. Any publicly accessible web forms quickly become flooded with automated signups, comment spam and more.

CAPTCHAs (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) are commonly used security measures to prevent automated programs (also called bots) from abusing online services. They do so by asking humans to perform a task that computers cannot yet perform (a challenge-response test).

Traditional CAPTCHA systems require users to type out some distorted characters in an image. The biggest problem with these techniques is that in order to make them hard for bots to get pass, they are often difficult to decipher even for humans. It is not uncommon to find human users making several attempts to get the right solution. Not only this is annoying and frustrating for users, it decreases their participation. Adding to the disadvantages of text-based CAPTCHAs is the fact that most of them have already been reliably broken.

Clickcha is a unique CAPTCHA system that overcomes the problems with traditional text-based CAPTCHAs. Not only is Clickcha easier to solve (for humans), it is far more secure. Clickcha works by replacing the "Submit" button of the web form to be secured with an image-based CAPTCHA (or "puzzle") that requires a single click to solve *and* post the form. The image puzzle contains a simple question that requires the user to click on a certain area in the picture. Only if the user clicks the right spot the CAPTCHA is solved and the user is allowed to proceed. These image-based puzzles are randomly generated on-the-fly making it impossible for bots to use a database of known puzzles and their solutions.

There are several other image-based CAPTCHA systems but Clickcha has the following advantages:

1. The simplest CAPTCHA out there - solved in one click - no typing required.
2. Replaces the form "Submit" button so no extra click is required to submit the web form.
3. More challenging than other image based CAPTCHAs as the question text itself is displayed as a part of the CAPTCHA.
4. Every Clickcha puzzle is unique.
5. New challenging (for bots) puzzle types regularly added.
6. Cannot be solved via Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software.
7. Simple to implement.

Clickcha.com provides a simple API that any web developer can use to easily secure web forms from automated submissions. A Wordpress plugin that installs in a few clicks is also available so that bloggers can easily add Clickcha to block comment spam. Clickcha plugins for other Content Management Systems and libraries for ASP.NET, PHP, Java, Ruby, etc. will be released shortly.
