Art Thinker's Day - Free Family Event

This special family event encourages students of all ages to use their eyes, hands, ears and imagination to explore contemporary art. Education Coordinator, Diane Sikes brings elements of Dallas Contemporary’s trademarked Art Think™ curriculum to the community through Art Thinkers’ Day.

Dallas, TX, April 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Join Dallas Contemporary for Art Thinkers’ Day, Saturday, May 16, 2009, from 11 am ~ 1 pm, Free of charge. This special family event encourages students of all ages to use their eyes, hands, ears and imagination to explore contemporary art. Current exhibition, Viewfinder: New Images explores the wide scope of photographic art practiced today from traditional still photography to video and installation work.

Activities for Saturday, May 16 include:
FOILED! ~ create a picture using cardboard, foil, and ink
Dream Interior ~ imagine your dream room with collage
Assemblage ~ redesign an everyday object to comment on social issues
Photograms ~ manipulate images on sun sensitive paper
Art Think ~ use your creative thinking skills in an informal session discussing a work of art

Education Coordinator, Diane Sikes brings elements of Dallas Contemporary’s trademarked Art Think™ curriculum to the community through Art Thinkers’ Day. “The Viewfinder exhibition explores innovative, surprising, and playful approaches to photography. Dallas Contemporary invites visitors to discover new art while developing their own creativity,” says Sikes.

The Viewfinder: New Images exhibition was commissioned by FotoFest and Houston Center for Photography. Curators Arturo Palacios, Founder and Director, Art Palace, Austin and Risa Puleo Assistant Curator of American and Contemporary Art, Blanton Museum of Art, Austin, developed the exhibition as part of the New Talent in Texas series.

Dallas Contemporary presents art in a forum that cultivates artist, ignites learning, and inspires the community. Art Think tours are available for all ages. Dallas Contemporary, located in the Wilson Historic District at 2801 Swiss Avenue, is Free and open to the public Tuesday ~ Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm.
