Eugene Hairdresser Pampers Women Recovering in Drug/Alcohol Program with Free Makeovers
Eugene, OR, April 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Blu Clark believes everyone deserves to feel beautiful. That’s why the personal stylist who started his career with the London-Based Salon, Toni & Guy, in Manhattan, NY is teaming up with Willamette Family, Inc. this Sunday, April 5th, at a salon near Downtown Eugene to offer the women who are succeeding in the drug and alcohol treatment program a complementary makeover. Clark and other professional hairdressers from “Hair By Laurie”, nail technicians and make-up artists will be on hand to pamper the women from head to toe.
This isn’t the first time Blu Clark has organized such an event. Now in full recovery after battling his own drug addiction, Clark has spearheaded multiple makeover events with Willamette Family and other non-profits in the area since his arrival in Eugene four years ago. Micki Knuckles, the Director of Treatment at Willamette Family, Inc. said, “What I would like to say about Blu is that he recognizes and honors the beauty of recovery from alcohol and drug use. What he provides for our clients is an opportunity to feel beautiful on the outside, while they discover the beauty that comes from within during the recovery process. Blu has volunteered for us many times over the years including providing makeovers, hair and skin care products, and sometimes just an ear that will listen. He really is a remarkable man who genuinely cares!”
Clark says Willamette Family selects the women who will receive the complementary makeover as a reward for doing well in the treatment program. “Seeing the joy and often tears on their faces after giving them a new haircut and color is amazing. Many of them have never had this kind of attention before,” he said. Clark says many people need this type of service to help them integrate back into the workforce. He also works closely with several local organizations to help men who are trying to reenter the workforce. “Lots of these men need some mentoring and encouragement to reach for their higher goals,” he said.
Clark says he truly understands what it’s like to hit so-called rock bottom and have nothing. With an impressive resume under his belt that included his work at the prestigious Toni & Guy Salon and as a visual designer for Barneys and Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York and Portland, Oregon, Clark says he got into meth after moving to Portland about five years ago. An addiction that Clark says eventually landed him on the streets, and into trouble with the law after he got caught stealing to support his drug habit.
As part of a plea-bargain, Clark says he was sent down to Eugene to complete a drug program at Willamette Family. “The two-month program changed my life,” he exclaimed. Now, with a new lease on life, Clark has established himself as one of the top personal stylists and educators in the area.
