Gulfport, MS, April 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Former ConocoPhillips Employee Publishes Oil Boom Novel.

Former ConocoPhillips Company employee, Sue Monkress, recently published her first novel, Long Horizon. The story is a family saga which revisits a rich, exciting period of history: the wild 1900’s oil boom. The story tells the dream of Jessie McCarey, a young woman who strong-arms her reluctant brothers into gambling on an oil drilling business in rough 1914 Oklahoma. The family business, McCarey Oil Company, successfully survives a world depression and two world wars while Jessie’s personal life careens between joy and loss. When Jessie loses her partner, her beloved older brother, she must compete with a Senior Vice President, ‘a tough old bulldog’ for control of McCarey Oil. Readers are in for a nostalgic journey through a fascinating time period, as well as a surprising twist at the board meeting to elect a new CEO.

Ms. Monkress began writing this novel fifteen years ago. After leaving ConocoPhillips to pursue other interests, she determined to complete the book. A story “always in the back of my mind; basically a love letter to Oklahoma,” it relates some facts of Oklahoma history and the exciting birth of the oil industry. After submitting proposals to book publishers, she was excited to learn that her work would be listed on Lulu.com. “Lulu enabled me to become a published author.”
