Beverly Hills, CA, April 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In a crisis you’d protect your family. Would you be willing to murder to protect them? This question is faced and embraced by Carina, the lead character, in Ronald Russell’s epic WWII novel “Don Carina.”
Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award recently chose Mr. Russell’s manuscript to advance to the semi-final round of the competition from a field of 10,000 novels. The novel was inspired by actual people as events that took place in Southern Italy before and during World War II.
The winner of the contest receives a book contract with Penguin Books. Penguin will choose the Top 100 novels to advance in the contest on April 15. Then, three novels will be selected for the final round. Bestselling authors Sue Monk Kidd and Sue Grafton will lead the expert panel with their reviews of the top three manuscripts as well as A-list literary agent Barney Karpfinger and Penguin Press Editor-in-Chief Eamon Dolan. The winner will be announced May 22, 2009.
Ronald Russell’s novel “Don Carina” follows a naïve girl from the south of Italy who is forced to marry the head of the Naples Mafia. A bombing incapacitates him during WWII and Carina battles for control of his organization in order to save her family from the threat of his own men, the Nazis, other crime families and the devastation of the war. She discovers that none of these outside threats endanger her more than her own choices.
