Latinas Take Over NYC Theater
Theater Festival to feature Ultimate Latina talent in the performing arts.
New York, NY, April 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Latino Flavored Productions, Inc. announced today it will host the second annual Ultimate Latina Theater Festival at the world famous Nuyorican Poets Café from June 4 -14, 2009. The festival is a collection of plays that feature Latina actors, directors, writers, and producers. The Ultimate Latina Theater Festival was created by author, director, and producer Linda Nieves-Powell.
“The festival is not designed to be competitive,” says Ms. Nieves-Powell. “Instead it provides an opportunity for aspiring and established Latina actors, writers, directors, and producers to develop their craft and knowledge of the theater business.”
This year the festival will feature six producers who will have the opportunity to produce a theatrical event that is new to the stage. Each producer will work with a mentor to perfect their skills and increase their knowledge of theater production. Submissions for the festival are original works that focus on relationships, cultural identity, and Shakespeare with a twist.
The festival will end with Gracias Mujeres, a charity event which honors women in the performing arts. An inspiring Latina artist who has made a significant impact in the theater community is honored at the event. Last year’s recipient was Pricilla Lopez who stars in the Tony Award winning musical In the Heights. Latino Flavored Productions Inc. and several of the cast members from the hit Tony-award winning musical will produce this event.
