Espiritu Design Announces Release of the Element Foot System™ New Prosthetic Foot Features Advancements in Materials, Function, Aesthetics and User Benefits

Salt Lake City, UT, April 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Espiritu Design is pleased to announce the release of the Element Foot System™ by Emotis LLC with distribution provided by Tennessee based Fillauer.

The Element prosthetic foot features a composite construction primarily of carbon fiber, creating a form consisting of smooth, continual contours with light weight, low profile height and high durability. Key design elements which differentiate the Element Foot System from other prosthetic feet include: an interchangeable “3rd Element”; a customizable carbon fiber spring technology which separates the Element Foot System from traditional dual spring prosthetic foot designs, and the ability to adjust heel stiffness with elastomer based components

The benefits of such features are performance advancements such as superior stability, natural gait cycle and fluid rollover while allowing each individual user to tune the system to their own preferences, resulting in life experience improvement. These benefits are the direct results of the Human Factors design approached based upon the relationship between the end user and surrounding environment. “Design is the process that spawns innovation - challenging the boundaries of possibilities to enhance and impact life experiences with positive results.” Theodore Espiritu, Principal, Espiritu Design.

The final design solution for the Element was achieved by using a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach between Salt Lake City firms Emotis, a group focused on creating mechanical engineering and materials science solutions and Espiritu Design, a product design and development studio. The Element marks the second alliance between key members of both companies to create a benchmarking prosthetic design, the first being Otto Bock HealthCare’s Trias prosthetic foot, winner of prestigious international design acclaim including the red dot and Legacy for the Future awards. By engaging in a multi-disciplinary approach, the Element Foot System is nothing short of extraordinary, and exemplary of the “form follows function” paradigm of modernist design.

Recent improvements in prosthetic design have provided new inspiration, opportunities and freedom to end users who may have previously felt limitations to participate in normal activities let alone extreme activities such as rock climbing and skiing. The Element not only supports this trend, but creates a new performance benchmark in prosthetic design. Its combination of performance and style will connect with those in search of modern technology to maintain active lifestyles whether the need comes from people involved military incidents to mountaineering frostbite.
