Stone Arch Books Publishes Graphic Novels for Beginning Readers

Minneapolis, MN, April 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Stone Arch Books, children’s book publisher of fiction graphic novels and chapter books, has published a new graphic novel series for the earliest elementary grade level called My 1st Graphic Novel. The series introduces students in grades K-2 to the graphic novel format and features sports stories with familiar topics, simplified sentences, and core vocabulary words appropriate for a beginning reader. Each title in the series features an opening spread with graphic novel reading instructions, showing young readers how to read the graphic novel format.

“Within the last couple years, educators have really embraced the use of graphic novels in the classroom and library as a valuable tool to give extra support to reluctant and striving readers, and ESL students,” said Joan Berge, President of Capstone Publishers’ fiction division. “Graphic novels can be a gateway to visual learning. With My 1st Graphic Novel beginning readers can develop their visual literacy skills and comprehension while reading a fun story.”

My 1st Graphic Novel is available in hardcover and paperback formats. Backmatter includes discussion questions and writing prompts to further extend the story. The series is Leveled by the Lexile FrameworkÒ for Learning, ATOS, Flesch-Kincaid, and Guided Reading.

Six additional titles in the series will be released in June 2009 and focus on transportation stories, walking children through first experiences on airplanes and trains.
