A Boy Survivor of Horrible Rape Ordeal Becoming Country’s Advocate for Recovery… Novelist, Dr. Thomas Moore
It is estimated that one in ten adults have been assaulted sexually as children. Ex-priest Dr. Moore says “at least 50% of u.s. population impacted by child rape.” Thomas relates his experience in book form: Ex-priest’s expose novel “Upland Road” to raise funds for survivors of childhood rape.
Los Angeles, CA, July 24, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Thomas Moore is a former priest who says “People who suffer child abuse, (or a series of emotionally traumatic events to the stage of OVERLOAD), require some form of healing or relief, in order to be able to function.”
It is estimated that one in ten adults have been assaulted sexually as children.
NSPCC statistics state that the number of reported cases of child sexual abuse is rising, by as much as 90% in those years where awareness was promoted by media attention. This is just the tip of an iceberg of human suffering and exploitation.
Most therapists do not know how to facilitate healing in cases of childhood rape. Therefore the survivors tend to resort to self-medication, such as alcohol, eating disorders, promiscuity, criminal aggressions, illegal drugs, or memory distorting mental illnesses.
The new book UPLAND ROAD recreates the author’s experiences in novel form, and traces many of the aftermath pathways.
EX-PRIEST DR. MOORE SAYS "AT LEAST 50% OF U.S. POPULATION IMPACTED BY CHILD RAPE."
“At least 10% of female and male children are raped, so 20% of the population are parents of victims, a further 10% are siblings of victims, and at least 15% additional members of our population (probably 25%) are in a close relationship, such as a marriage partner or best friend, with a victim. Therefore more than 50% of our population is seriously impacted by child rape.”
THOMAS MOORE RELATES HIS EXPERIENCE IN BOOK FORM:
UPLAND ROAD is the story of internal and family conflict, about the cost of childhood rape on adult relationships, the possibility of redemption, and the forgiveness required to journey on. UPLAND ROAD is memorable both as a social commentary and as poetic character portrayals around how childhood events reflect in adult lives. The character studies are revealing, especially the multi-layered development.

Tom, What do you know about child rape? From personal experience, family members, partners, friends, students?
How serious is the affect on the 50% of our population that you claim are impacted by direct experience or close association with the aftermath of child rape?
What do you know about psycho-therapy? From personal experience?
What was the nature of your practice as a priest?
What is the basis of your research into Child rape?
Why do you say therapy doesn’t work for survivors of child rape? You mean we are pouring all that health care money into a black hole?
What do you personally know about addictions and eating disorders?
What is the functioning level of the healthiest survivor of child rape that you have witnessed?
Then who is providing the healing or relief? If not therapist or medicine?
How can the public help if 10% of children in the U.S. are raped, and another forty percent of the population is severely emotionally impacted, often unwittingly?
Is it true that victims of child rape often become abusers of the next
generation?
