The 16th Annual Walk-Along for Lupus Donation Website is Up and Running

Bellmore, NY, April 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- On Sunday, October 18th, 2009, in Eisenhower Park, Field #6, the Lupus Alliance of America LI/Q Affiliate will hold the 16th Annual Walk-Along for Lupus, Long Islands largest and longest running Lupus walk. The Walk-Along for Lupus donation website is up and running and ready for walkers to register and design their own walk web pages and start collecting for this years walk earlier than ever before.

To register for this years walk, please visit www.lupusliqueens.org and click on the orange walk loop. Once there you can register and design your own walk webpage by adding your own personal touches like photos, YouTube videos and your story on why you walk for lupus. Once your page is complete you can begin to solicit donations from friends, family, online pals and more by using email, instant messaging and social networking tools. If you use facebook you can download the facebook firstgiving widget to help you raise funds for the walk right from your facebook page. If you use twitter, be sure to tweet your walk webpage to all your followers and ask them to retweet the information as well. New this year, teams will have their own page where they can check their team stats including member’s names, money raised and more, also new this year the offline monies collected will be seen and totaled on the front page of the walk website, and another new addition is that you can list your personal walk webpage on Digg.com, to help reach out to more potential donors.

The money raised through the Walk-Along for Lupus is The Alliance’s main source of funding for their programs and research efforts. Their programs include financial assistance for medical bills, prescriptions, household expenses and more, support services that include support groups, one-on-one telephone counseling, educational seminars, doctor referral lists, brochures, newsletters and more as well as community outreach programs designed to spread awareness about lupus through libraries, private organizations and schools, and a program for children with lupus, offering scholarships, financial assistance, fun outings and more. On the research front, the Lupus Alliance of LI/Q has given over $375,000 in the last three years to novel National research in an effort to help find the cause and cure for lupus.
