VHS to Offer Free Online Teaching Courses
To enable 21st century education, Virtual High School (VHS) is offering free and reduced cost online teaching courses to K-12 teachers worldwide.
Maynard, MA, April 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Virtual High School Global Consortium (http://www.govhs.org), the pioneer of online learning for high school students and course design for teachers, today announced that VHS trained educators at their more than 300 member schools can now take their 21st Century Teaching Best Practice online teaching courses complimentary. In addition, non-members can enjoy affordable online professional development for teachers with a discount on their first VHS K-12 professional development course.
“Most educators today are not prepared to teach online, and having this skill is vital to reaching today’s 21st century learner,” said Liz Pape, President & CEO of VHS. “As a leader in teacher online professional development, we want to do our part to help create 21st century schools.”
These offers apply exclusively to VHS’s five, six week long best practice courses--21st Century Teaching and Learning, Web-enhanced Classroom, Online-extended Teaching, Web 2.0: Collaborative Instruction and Becoming an Online Teacher. Current and prospective VHS member schools will continue to pay VHS member school training for site coordinators and teachers.
Graduate credit is available for VHS’s 21st Century Best Practice Practices courses through partnerships with Framingham State College (see Framingham State Offers Graduate Credit for Online Teaching Courses), Plymouth State University and Northwest Nazarene University.
Virtual High School is a non-profit collaborative of high schools, teachers and students. Teachers who are certified in their specific discipline, and who have completed a VHS professional development program, facilitate and continually monitor all courses. In addition, VHS students benefit from small classes and personalized one-on-one attention from active high school teachers, while mastering subject matter and 21st century ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills that will increase their chances for future success in higher education and the work environment.
Courses begin on April 15, 2009 and on July 8, 2009. For more information or to register, visit http://www.govhs.org/Pages/ProfDev-Home.
