National Association of Health Underwriters Hosts 2009 Capitol Conference
Texas Chapter Voices Opinions of Independent State Insurance Agents.
Austin, TX, April 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) hosted their annual Capitol Conference in Washington, DC from March 30, 2009 to April 1, 2009. Over 700 independent agents from across the country met to lobby in Washington, and members of the Texas Association of Health Underwriters (TAHU) were present to voice the concerns of independent insurance agents and consumers to legislators on a national level. Agents who attended the conference heard from top consumer health care advocates, lobbyists and had the chance to meet with local and national representatives.
“As a result of the Capitol Conference, TAHU members will be more vigilant in monitoring new legislation on health care and health care financing,” TAHU president Ron Buffum said, “We believe that by staying connected to Washington, we can react immediately when new legislation comes into effect and help many uninsured Texans find appropriate and affordable health care plans.”
The 2009 Capitol Conference provided NAHU and its chapters with the platform to share several recommendations for improving the health care industry. NAHU published a list for members of federal legislative priorities to lobby during the 2009 conference. These priorities included methods for containing health care costs while improving quality, ensuring access to health insurance coverage for all who need it, long-term care insurance premiums and preserving private Medicare choices. A complete list of NAHU’s Federal Legislative Priorities for 2009 can be accessed online at http://www.nahu.org.
TAHU members also voiced their concerns about the risks of pooling coverage and health insurance connectors, the dangers of a public health insurance plan program competing with private plans and cautioning government mandates that would require all individuals or employers to purchase health plans.
