Singapore, Singapore, April 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Cate.com.sg, women’s online fashion and lifestyle retailer, announced today that they have launched their online store. Customers can expect to find a carefully curated range of ready-to-wear, accessories and lifestyle items from the region’s independent designers, with opening sales of 10-30% off on selected styles, on till May 5. Prices range from under S$100 for gorgeous accessories, tops and dresses to over S$1,000 for a lovely beaded Farah Khan creation. And Luxe guides retail at S$16.
The online retailer carries online exclusives from homegrown ready-to-wear brands Nicholas and Yu, and overseas brands Farah Khan, Gospel and George Fashion. They also carry pieces by Alldressedup, Baylene, Glor, Hansel, Laurence Pasquier, Moss & Spy, Shona Joy, Thurley and Valerie Tolosa. Singaporeans and frequent travelers to Australia and Malaysia may already be fans of these brands, and for those curious about the personalities behind the brands, the online retailer provides succinct bios about the designers, their design philosophies and signature styles. Owner Sharon Siew, who turns 30 this month, has brought in designs in limited pieces, and shares: “The allure of shopping independent brands is akin to that of buying unique items from your travels overseas, confident in knowing that you are among the few who own it. In the current economic climate, spending on luxury goods has declined. Independent brands are mid-priced and still offer quality with a design edge.”
Pulling together looks inspired by its muse, Cate – who simply exudes effortless, wearable elegance, the online retailer presents customers with subtly sophisticated, timeless pieces that will be wardrobe staples for years to come. Sharon adds, “We are very excited about bringing together independent designer brands from the region and making them accessible to our customers. We look forward to being the online store of choice for like-minded, stylish individuals who may have little time to themselves or who simply prize the convenience of shopping online for effortlessly chic and understatedly elegant outfits within the comfort of home or office. These are quality, signature pieces that will outlast any one fashion season. And, you may just be onto the next big thing.”
Understanding that customers may hesitate to shop online for fear of buying ill-fitting garments, the online retailer has sought to keep shoppers well-informed by providing multiple views of the garments, comparative size guides and detailed item measurements, as well as e-mail customer support. They ship to 151 countries, and local next-day delivery within Singapore costs just S$5 for any number of items. They are committed to processing returns quickly where sizing is an issue, and Singapore customers in the CBD area can arrange to return items conveniently through a free collection service offered by the online retailer.
Customers concerned about the security of making payments online will be pleased to know that the online retailer uses Paypal’s secure payment gateway and does not store any payment or credit card details at their end. Accepted modes of payment include credit cards and Paypal balances.
Furthermore, all parcels are sent out gift-worthy. Items are carefully wrapped in tissue paper, overlaid with the online retailer’s signature purple wrapping paper and adorned with a Cate sticker in a rose gold hue. The website also suggests gift ideas for occasions such as Mother’s Day, birthdays and anniversaries, making it the ideal online destination to shop for gifts for beloved family and friends.

About Sharon Siew
Singaporean Sharon Siew had never really considered starting her own fashion business until she turned 24. After all, courtesy of her father’s job posting to Perth, she had majored in accounting and quantitative finance at the University of Western Australia, and upon graduating with first class honours, had returned to Singapore and stepped foot in the corporate world as a management trainee in finance within local media organisation Singapore Press Holdings. Her love for fashion had been inspired by reading Australian fashion magazines while at high school and university, but then so were many other girls’.
While the nature of her studies and work had been highly numeric, Sharon always had a creative bent that yearned for an outlet somewhere. She sought it with a move to marketing with Raffles Hotels and Resorts, where she picked up insights into branding for a Singapore icon. However, during this time, her dream of starting a business in fashion and marketing continued to beckon, and she decided to take concrete steps towards realising her passion by leaving the corporate world and taking the road less travelled. She turns 30 this month as she launches cate.com.sg, and looks forward to writing the next chapter of her life championing talent from the region and presenting them to the world, to you.
