Communities in Schools of North Carolina Announces New Financial Literacy Tool

Raleigh, NC, April 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Linda Harrill, president and CEO of Communities In Schools of North Carolina (CISNC) (www.cisnc.org), an alliance partner and state coordinator for America’s Promise Alliance, is pleased to announce a new financial literacy tool now available for middle and high school students. The financial literacy tool, “$aving Our Futures: A Financial Responsibility Program For Young People,” was released on March 20 by America’s Promise Alliance and the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.

The online curriculum teaches middle school and high school students about financial responsibility and to advocate for smarter money management in their homes, communities and from elected officials. The online tool is designed as a companion to the critically acclaimed documentary about the U.S. economy, I.O.U.S.A. The curriculum can be used in school or in after-school programs and provides opportunities for service-learning projects. CISNC has partnered with America’s Promise, and as part of the National Financial Literacy Month, announced the availability of this online tool.

Communities In Schools of North Carolina (CISNC), an independently incorporated nonprofit, was established in 1989 as a part of the national Communities In Schools network. The organization is the nation’s largest community-based dropout prevention program with nearly 200 communities serving 1.2 million youth in the United States. For more information about CISNC, call (800) 849-8881 or visit their Web site at www.cisnc.org.

“We are pleased to announce the availability of this online tool provided by America’s Promise and the Peter G. Peterson Foundation,” said Harrill. “In honor of National Financial Literacy month, we encourage all of our CIS programs to include financial literacy in their programming to help educate America’s youth about the responsibilities that come with earning and spending money.”
