Carmel Pharma/PhaSeal Exhibiting at Booth #251 at ONS Congress
Offerings Include Interactive Product Efficacy Demos, Opportunities to Speak with PhaSeal Developers, Complimentary Starbucks Cards and More.
Columbus, OH, April 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Carmel Pharma, manufacturer of the PhaSeal System for the safe handling of hazardous drugs, will offer several attractions at Booth #251 during the ONS 34th Annual Congress, including: interactive product efficacy demonstrations (aka the pH Test) led by independent clinical specialists, the unprecedented opportunity to speak directly with Carmel Pharma’s own development experts, complimentary Starbucks Cards, free onsite coffee and more.
Designed to illustrate the leakproof connection integrity of today’s available vial transfer devices, the pH Test uses ordinary lemon juice (which simulates drug across both preparation and administration manipulations) and litmus strips to determine if there is an occurrence of leakage. In similar tests – including the “Contamination Comparison of Transfer Devices Intended for Handling Hazardous Drugs” recently published in Hospital Pharmacy – PhaSeal has been the only vial transfer device to meet the leakproof and airtight definition of a CSTD.
Accompanied by Ask the Experts opportunities, the pH test will be conducted on Thursday, April 30 from 11am-3pm, Friday, May 1 from 9am-11am and from 1pm-3pm and Saturday, May 2 from 10am-2pm. The interactive demonstrations will be led by the following safe handling experts:
· Jayme Leavy, RN, BSN, OCN
Oncology Nurse Educator
SwedishAmerican Hospital, Rockford, IL
· Kerry Mahar, RN, MSN, AOCN
Clinical Nurse Specialist
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA
· Kathy Pearson, RN, CNS, MN, AOCN
Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist
St. Jude Medical Center, Fullerton, CA
· Sandra Randall, BSN, MSN, RN
Clinical Manager, Ped Hem/Onc/BMT
Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Portland, OR
All other booth activities will be ongoing throughout the show.
The ONS 34th Annual Congress will be held in San Antonio, TX at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center Thursday, April 30 through Saturday, May 2. Exhibit hours are from 11am-5pm on Thursday; 8:30am-3pm on Friday; and 10am-3pm on Saturday.
PhaSeal is more than a system for the safe handling of hazardous drugs. It’s the only clinically proven closed-system drug transfer device (CSTD) available today and is validated by more than 10 independent, peer-reviewed, published clinical studies. Distinguished by prominent thought leaders as the “Gold Standard” in safe handling, PhaSeal’s airtight Expansion Chamber and leakproof Double Membrane connections prevent exposure to hazardous drugs, including aerosols and vapors, and make it the only system that meets the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP) definition of a true CSTD. Its streamlined design and universally-compatible components make the system easy to use from preparation and administration to waste disposal.
The PhaSeal System is manufactured by Carmel Pharma ab in Gothenburg, Sweden and is distributed from its U.S. affiliate office, Carmel Pharma, Inc., in Columbus, OH. PhaSeal has been in use in the United States since 2000 and implemented in more than 1000 cancer facilities, infusion centers and private practices, including M.D. Anderson and Texas Children’s in Houston, TX; City of Hope in Duarte, CA; Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA; SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford, IL; and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, just to name a few.
