thecentre:mk Shopping Centre Wins Top Safety Award
Regional Shopping Destination, thecentre:mk in Milton Keynes, has scooped a prestigious international award from one of the world’s leading health and safety training, advisory and audit bodies. Following rigorous assessment by an independent adjudication panel the British Safety Council has bestowed its esteemed International Safety Award on thecentre:mk.
Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, April 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- For an organisation to win this coveted award it must demonstrate that it has in place comprehensive health and safety policies, targeted plans and a clear commitment to health and safety from the shop floor to the boardroom. It must be committed to the promotion of a positive safety culture. The winning organisation must also have demonstrated the competence of those responsible for the management of health and safety and provide clear evidence about the improvements they have achieved in health and safety during the year.
Mr Brian Nimick, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, says: “For more than 50 years, BSC has led the way in promoting health, safety and environmental best practice in society. In the 21st century, many organisations worldwide are understandably making health, safety and environmental management their top priority. Through achieving an International Safety Award, thecentre:mk is helping to make our vision of a healthy and safe working environment a reality.”
“This is absolutely fantastic news for the team at thecentre:mk who have a tremendous amount of hard work into gaining this award,” commented Robert Goodman, Centre Director at thecentre:mk. “We put a lot of emphasis on this area, which is shown in not only this award but also recently achieving ISO-140001 certification.”
Last year Prime Minister Gordon Brown added his congratulations: “I am delighted to send my congratulations to all of those organisations being presented with an award by the British Safety Council. These awards recognise the crucial success that these organisations and their employees have achieved in their pursuit of excellence in the management of health, safety and environmental matters at an international level. The event provides an opportunity to publicly recognise the important contribution made by the British Safety Council in promoting health, safety and environmental best practice. I would like to place on record my appreciation of the support given by the Council in raising public awareness of the benefits effective health, safety and environmental management brings to business, employees, the environment and the economy as a whole.
