Erie Art Museum Premiers 86th Annual Spring Show

Erie, PA, April 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Erie Art Museum premiers its 86th Annual Spring Show on Saturday, April 18 with a Museum members’ opening preview and reception for the artists from 7-9:30 p.m. in the Museum’s Main Gallery, 411 State Street.

This year’s entries included 532 works from 310 artists. Spring Show juror Wendell Castle accepted 76 works from 50 artists to be exhibited in the Erie Art Museum’s 86th Annual Spring Show opening from April 18 through
June 14, 2009.

“With over 500 works of art to choose from, narrowing the exhibition to 70 works was a challenge, as the overall quality was very strong,” said Castle. “It was my intention to carefully select a cohesively balanced survey reflecting contemporary esthetics. The overall high quality made it possible to achieve this goal.”

All artists residing within 250-miles of Erie were invited to enter works not previously exhibited in the Erie area. A total of $10,000 in awards is offered, including $2,000 in juror’s cash awards, the $500 Northwestern Pennsylvania Arts Association Award and at least $7,500 in guaranteed purchases. The cash awards will be divided among the juror’s selections of the best work in the show.

Juror’s awards were given to artists Lee Forest, Cradle of Civilization II, Brian Pardini, Untitled, Ben Gibson, Desire, Brent Kee Young, Matrix Series: Circular Construct . . ., D. W. Martin, Border Line Bliss, and Gene Kangas, Sonny.

The Erie Art Museum’s 86th Annual Spring Show is sponsored by Erie Insurance Group.
