AIGA Miami Presents, “Never Sleep: Graduating to Graphic Design”
Miami, FL, April 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- On May 21, AIGA Miami presents the “Never Sleep: Graduating to Graphic Design”. For the this event, award winning design duo G. Dan Covert and Andre Andreev, of Dress Code will discuss their new book “Never Sleep: Graduating to Graphic Design” and share their insightful experiences in the design field.
There is a major disconnect between the life of a design student and the transition to being a design professional. To demystify this transition, they will share the failures, successes and surprises from their years in college to starting our own studio dress code. Never sleep includes what they learned about self-promotion, interview, internships, monetary problems, personal relationships, prison time, first jobs and the all around hustle of making it happen.
About the Authors:
G. Dan Covert is Ohio. Andre Andreev is Bulgaria. They is dress code. At the combined age of 51 their work has been recognized by shiny awards, appeared in lots of magazines, coffee table books and 3 museums. They met while studying graphic design at California College of the Arts. Then moved to New York and got jobs with MTV working in motion and print, before stupidly leaving their dream jobs to start a studio of their own.
They also co-teach Design, Type and New Media classes at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Their book about transitioning from school to work in the field of graphic design, entitled Never Sleep will hit stores in April.
Andre eats meat and drinks that purple stuff, Dan dislikes puppies and is somewhat of an amateur magician. See for yourself 24 hours a day at dresscodeny.com, neverlseepbook.com, acrossthefieldmovie.com, funislearning.com and swishahouse.biz.
The event is Free and open to the public. AIGA invites anyone curious about creativity to be part of the conversation, especially students and those new to the industry looking for insight from seasoned professionals.

About AIGA Miami
In 1914 at the National Arts Club in New York City, 40 people met and passed a resolution authorizing a committee to draft a constitution and bylaws for a new organization named the American Institute of Graphic Arts and established “as a source of pleasure and intellectual profit” to its members.
Sixty-two years later in 1986, South Florida initiated its own chapter. It took some time to process the national paperwork and become incorporated in 1987. Some members of the original founding group were: Lee Warfield, Cynthia Haanegraf, Geoffrey van de Woerstyne, Jacques Auger, Claudia Auger, Katharina Drexel, Terry Stone, William Armenteros, Danny Ramirez. The early group received a lot of support from H&D Graphics (Bob Haff, Mike Daugherty, Karen Daugherty & Joanie Skipp) and Supertype (Livy Shephard). Many other important sponsors have helped us grow our programming and influence in the South Florida Design community.
AIGA Miami continues to be maintained by an all-volunteer board of dedicated members of the design community.
National Mission Statement
The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) is a private, non-profit organization committed to promoting the communication and excellence in design. AIGA’s mission is to advance designing as a professional craft, strategic tool and vital cultural force. AIGA bridges communities and increases awareness through the exchange of ideas and information, encouragement of critical analysis/research, and through the advancement of education and ethical practice.
