Local Cheer Team Wins Regional Championship
Pasdena, CA, April 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The infinity All Stars took home first place and the title of Regional Champions at the West Cost Regional Championships held at Six Flags Magic Mountain March 15th, which featured more than 75 teams from across Southern California. The team won the title against all odds, beating out programs more than twice their size that have been around three times as long. Entering their second season this June, infinity All Stars is ready for this up coming competition season.
For Team Owner and Head Coach Latasha D. Sanders, a former cheerleader and judge, creating infinity All Stars was the culmination of a lifelong dream that takes young athletes far beyond funky dance moves and back handsprings. “Being a part of a team gives athletes an invaluable opportunity to develop life skills that will serve them on and off the field,” says Sanders. The number one priority of the coaching staff is to provide a safe, positive environment where dedicated athletes can train. "While winning is great, it isn't everything," Sanders explains. "Our success is demonstrated by the progression of our athletes, creating talented squads filled with wonderful individuals."
“While we may not be the largest program in the city or country, our focus is on continuing to be the best. It is always a challenge to remain on top of competitive all star cheer and it is a challenge we are ready to face. To do this in today’s all-star cheerleading world, we have given our athletes a premier coaching staff that cares about each and every athlete in our program,” Sanders explains.
For the All Star Cheerleaders, winning the Regional Title was the perfect end to a great season. "We had been working so hard all season to prove ourselves," reminisces Kymaari Johnson, a member of the Senior Team. "We wanted to win not only for ourselves, but for our parents who supported us and our coaches who believed in us. I can't wait do it again next season."
According to industry officials, cheerleading is growing in popularity among young girls and a boy, making it America’s fastest growing performance based sports. The sport has gained additional national exposure in recent years on ESPN, Fox Sports, USA Network, Discovery Channel, and the Lifetime Network’s “Cheerleader Nation,” and in movies like “Bring It On”, “Bring It On Again.”, “Fired Up”, and “Bring It On Cinco”. Highlighted are the advanced acrobatics and fast paced routines set to today‘s popular music. It also helps that colleges and universities across the country are offering scholarships for cheerleading ranging from book stipends to full tuition. With the cost of higher education increasing each year, every little bit helps.
All Star Teams are not like school programs. Unlike high school or recreation league cheerleaders, all stars don’t sit on the sidelines cheering for sports teams. All Star Cheerleaders and Dancers take center stage at competing against each other by demonstrating an exciting combination of cheerleading moves, dance, tumbling, and pyramids. The infinity All Stars also perform at local community events and exhibitions throughout the year entertaining the crowds while showcasing their skills.
In addition to offering competitive teams, infinity All Stars also offers a program designed to serve the growth and development of cheerleading and dance in the community. Working with youth cheerleading organizations, middle school, and high school teams is just one avenue of service. Infinity All Stars also offers camps and clinics throughout the year that are open to anyone who wants to learn.
