Wake Forest, NC, April 19, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Wake Forest-Rolesville senior Mark Shimmel to receive 2009 Technical School Award at Foundation’s upcoming scholarship banquet.

The Trentini Foundation, a volunteer-run organization honoring the late Anthony Trentini by awarding college scholarships in his memory, today announced local high school senior Mark Shimmel as the recipient of the 2009 Technical School Award for student achievement. The $2,000 scholarship award is given to one graduating senior at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School who exhibits positive character traits, actively participates in the community and a shows commitment to continuing education.

The award will be presented to Shimmel during the 29th Annual Anthony J. Trentini Foundation Scholarship Banquet. The event will also feature keynote speaker Jim Grobe, Wake Forest University Head Football Coach, who will discuss what it means to lead others, whether it be at a championship event, performing in the classroom or volunteering for community service.

Through community projects with the Boy Scouts of America and the Wake Forest Rolesville FFA chapter, Shimmel obtained merit badges for responsible citizenship, character development and self-reliance. He also earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor a Boy Scout may receive, by demonstrating loyalty, service and leadership. Shimmel plans to attend Wake Technical Community College in the college transfer program, which will allow him to go on to study Wildlife Management at North Carolina State University.

In his scholarship application, Shimmel said, “Being an Eagle Scout means that I have the dedication to stick with something for ten years even when it was not the “cool or popular” thing to do. I know that I am recognized as a doer and will stand out as a leader.”

“We are pleased to be presenting this award to Mark, who emulates the work ethic of Tony Trentini,” said Tommy Murray, board member for the Trentini Foundation. “Education is the cornerstone of our mission and we are proud to help deserving youth achieve their goals through scholarships.”

The Technical School Award pays for tuition, fees and books for a full time student attending at least two semesters at a North Carolina Junior College, Community College or Trade School. Its purpose is to assist a graduating senior at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School to continue his or her education in order to develop the skills and experience necessary to complete vocational and educational goals. The scholarship is awarded to one student annually by the Trentini Foundation.

The Trentini Foundation Scholarship Banquet will take place on April 25, 2009 at 6:30pm at The Forks Cafeteria in Downtown Wake Forest. Tickets for the event are available by calling Betsy Adams at 919-556-4454.
