Wholesome or Decadent?: Two Contrasting Breakfasts Fight to be the Most Popular

Francis Restaurant on Alberta Street is seeing a trend where the two most popular dishes couldn’t be more different: Don’s Benedict, a rich and sinful dish, versus the lighter fare of Vegetable Hash.

Portland, OR, April 21, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Francis Restaurant on Alberta Street is seeing a trend where the two most popular dishes couldn’t be more different: Don’s Benedict, a rich and sinful dish, versus the lighter fare of Vegetable Hash.

These two popular dishes at Francis Restaurant are like night and day. Don’s Benedict is a biscuit topped with smoked ham, eggs, and sausage gravy – made for a lumberjack. For the vegetable conscious diner, the most popular dish is Vegetable Hash which consists of onion, pacia peppers, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, brussel sprouts, tomatoes, zucchini and yellow squash topped with eggs, green chili sauce, and crème fraîche.

What does this say about Portland breakfast diners?

The owner and chef at Francis Restaurant, Christopher Pierce says, “I think Portlanders are generally active and health conscious. However, they are down to earth and reasonable people who understand that a lumberjack style breakfast now and then won’t hurt. They live healthy, but treat themselves now and again.”

Another trend that has grown in Portland is the popularity of gluten free and vegan food. Francis Restaurant has been working closely with several of its vegan and gluten intolerant customers to create a menu which satisfies their dietary needs and tantalizes their palates.
