From Susan Boyle on ‘Britain's Got Talent’ to Grandma’s on Facebook - Baby Boomers Are Fearless

New York, NY, April 23, 2009 --(PR.com)-- “Thanks to Generation Y’s plaything YouTube, the whole world is now celebrating the voice and face of Susan Boyle, a shy 47-year-old singer from a small Scottish village who wowed Simon Cowell and other judges of Britain’s got Talent, and that’s an ironic twist” notes Jacqueline Wales, speaker, coach and author of The Fearless Factor: Living Your Best Life Now (www.thefearlessfactor.com).

According to Wales, she’s finding lots of evidence that today’s baby boomers are fearless about aging and as a result, 20-somethings may be even more stunned to see their grandmas creating Facebook sites, let alone appearing on YouTube. She observes that boomers are embracing consumer technology applications nearly 20 times faster than the younger generation. According to The Mercury News in San Jose, over the past year the percentage of boomers listening to podcasts or reading blogs jumped 67 percent to 26 percent while Generation Y stayed flat at 45 percent.

Inside Facebook, a Web site that reports on the social networking king, says the fastest-growing segment of users over the past 60 days is people over 35. While the biggest segment of members are still 18-25 (19.5 million), there are now 13.4 million members between 35-54 -a figure that ballooned 276 percent over the past six months.

Perhaps most interesting are the demographics of Twitter. According to Nielsen Online, 65.2 percent of the people who visited the micro blogging site in February were over 35.

Concludes Wales, “This just confirms my opinion that you are never too old, too fat or too late for Anything.”
