NPSA Partners with B.I.C.
The National Portable Storage Association partners with the Bureau International des Containers et du Transport Intermodal to assist with the tracking and monitoring of containers.
Kansas City, MO, April 24, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The National Portable Storage Association (NPSA), a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry, has partnered with the Bureau International des Containers et du Transport International (B.I.C.) to assist with the tracking and monitoring of containers throughout the world.
"We are proud to partner with the B.I.C. to drive more collaboration and communication among all container owners and users across the globe," said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive NPSA. "Our partnership will help us keep NPSA members up to date on important revisions to custom conventions, new international codes, conferences and forums, and much more."
With 1,700 members, B.I.C. is the only non-governmental organization linking together all groups that are interested in containerization and intermodal transport, including carriers, manufacturers, operators, lessors, shippers and forwarders. The B.I.C. has an ISO and WCO mandate to allocate and protect the ISO alpha code for the identification of containers in international trade.
The BIC also contributes to the expansion of containerization and intermodal transport, facilitates professional discussions on subjects connected with containers and intermodal transport, and obtains and keeps specialized documentation updated for the benefit of its members. The organization contributes to international projects, participates in working groups in international organizations and is responsible for the creation registration and publication of the LO-Codes, which is a coded structured geographical identification of every outfit of any company working in the container field.
The International Chamber of Commerce established the B.I.C. in 1933 in order to make business people sensitive to the development of international – and thus intermodal – transport and its practical aspects. B.I.C. played a major part in the organization of maritime transportation with containers since the early 1960s in the last century, mainly dealing with the matters such as technical control, strength, coding, identification and marking of containers, and more generally the facilitation of commercial exchanges.
