Austin, TX, April 24, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Alliance Abroad Group (AAG) recently announced approval by the U.S. Department of State to operate a J-1 Teacher Exchange Visitor program. The J-1 visa cultural exchange enables talented teachers from around the world to contribute their expertise by teaching in American public and private schools while gaining a better understanding of the United States culture and educational system. This program will focus on sponsoring teachers with expertise in subject areas that face critical teaching shortages. AAG, which has been the leader for nearly a decade in providing J-1 Work, Training and Intern programs to university students and young professionals from around the world, will provide the support to deliver program that is seamless for the teachers and the schools that select them.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer this prestigious program, which will both fill a dire need in schools around the United States while also contributing to exchange of cultures around the world. This program doesn’t displace American teachers, but it does help get good teachers into schools that need them” states Lauren Stone, AAG Senior Vice President of Program Operations. AAG is in an ideal position to link foreign teachers with schools that have a growing need for them. The schools can continue to focus on student education, while AAG assists in increasing schools’ chances of finding qualified teachers in subjects in which they experiencing shortages, such as math, science, special education and elementary education.

AAG will also:

Facilitate the recruitment of high caliber teachers who will be selected from large and competitive applicant pools;
Bring a culturally and educationally unique perspective to schools;
Create opportunities for cultural exchange among staff and build a diverse workforce;
Provide unique experiences for students that will help them gain an international perspective;
Help decrease administrative workload, as AAG will manage the credentialing, vetting and relocation for schools.

A participant may teach for one to three years in a primary or secondary school in the United States. As the program sponsor, AAG will oversee the selection, evaluation, preparation and orientation of teachers for the U.S. schools and provide the necessary documentation and ongoing support through the program. AAG will function as a resource for both the schools and the teacher, and ensure fulfillment of all U.S. State Department regulations. The intention of the program is that the participant benefit from the experience in the United States, then return home to further his or her career in the home country and share what they have learned in the United States to their own students.
