Figure Drawing Workshop to be Taught by Martine Strohmeyer and Rita Marlier May 3rd and May 4th in Virginia Beach, VA

Two well known artists, Martine Strohmeyer and Rita Marlier, will team up to teach a two day intensive figure drawing class.

Virginia Beach, VA, April 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Take a Figure Drawing Two Day Intensive Workshop in Virginia Beach, at The Artists Gallery, 608 Norfolk Avenue with Martine Strohmeyer and Rita Marlier on May 3rd and May 4th, 2009.

Improve figure drawing skills by drawing from a live model for two days (four 2-hour model sessions). Learn how to see the figure in multiple ways: with emphasis on gesture, volume, space, anatomy or expression. Basic figure drawing experience is strongly suggested. The workshop will begin promptly at 10 a.m. and continue until 5:00 p.m. each day with a thirty-minute break for lunch provided by The Artists Gallery.

Daily Time Line

Sunday May 3rd 10-10:30 introductions & set up 10:30 -12:30 drawing the model 12:30-1:30 critique Lunch provided 1:30 – 2:00 2:00-4:00 2nd model 4:00 to 5:00.

Monday May 4th 10:00-12:00 drawing the 3rd model 12:00-1:00 critique lunch provided 1:00 -1:30, 1:30- 3:30 drawing the 4th model final critique 3:30-5:00 PM

Rita Marlier has exhibited her figure sculpture extensively in Hampton Roads for the last 35 years. She has an MFA in Sculpture from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh where she taught at Carlow College before coming to Norfolk. Locally she taught figure drawing and figure sculpture at the Norfolk Museum Art School and later at Old Dominion University from 1980 to 1995.

Martine Strohmeyer, MFA is an award winning working and teaching artist. She is a former Instructor for the Governor’s School for the Arts of Virginia and the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia. Martine regularly teaches and exhibits her work in Universities, Art Centers and Museums throughout the Eastern United States. She is a popular visiting artist and she has judged and /or curated over 100 exhibitions. In 2004, the National Foundation of the Arts recognized her as a Distinguished Teacher in the Arts for Advancement in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
