This action-packed whodunit begins on a hot and humid afternoon when ex-race car driver Jim Young and his brother Adam decide to check out Adam’s newest purchase—the childhood farm where so many memories lie hidden. What the two never expect to find is a mummified corpse sitting in a classic car in the barn. As the story builds in speed, we learn that it has been nearly ten years since Jim’s friend, Catherine Throckton, was killed by a hit-and-run driver, the same time that a local teenage boy had disappeared.

When the eyes of the law turn an accusatory eye on Jim, the race is on as Jim engages in his own search for answers. But when his brother Adam is savagely attacked by an unknown group of assailants, the rest of the Young brothers band together as they attempt to solve the decade-old mystery. The more involved they become, however, the more neighbors keep turning up dead.

“In Qualifying Laps,” author Nash Black says, “The action sizzles like southern August heat.” Nash Black is a pseudonym for the husband and wife team of Ford Nashett and Irene Black. At the average age of 65, this former United States Auto Club (USAC) observer and retired librarian decided to unite their talents to craft a series of Brewster County stories. The two bring to the printed page their extensive backgrounds in a plethora of fields, including farming, photography, natural history, industrial x-ray, motors sports, antiques, theater, public service, and country living.
