A Grandmother's Love & Recipes Transcend Time
Cookbook author Elizabeth Rose von Hohen's Grandmother's Cookbook has been described as “A Family Love Letter.” Its comfort food recipes are tried and true, some have existed in the family for well over one hundred years. Their appeal is now just as it was then ~ simple recipes using basic ingredients.
Doylestown, PA, April 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Cookbook Author Elizabeth Rose von Hohen's lifelong passion for cooking and nurturing love for her family are shared in the latest edition of Grandmother's Cookbook. Many of Elizabeth's comfort food recipes have existed well over one hundred years, withstanding the test of time. The recipes are simple and delicious using basic ingredients.
In collaboration with her granddaughter, Carrie J. Gamble, Elizabeth created her unique cookbook with a combination of country homestyle recipes, treasured memories and watercolors of her favorite wildflowers. Country Home magazine's food editor says, “The family cookbook is like a long love letter to one's family ~ a paean in praise of hearth, heritage and home. Grandmother's Cookbook springs from two people but speaks volumes with a singular voice about a family's life. They are Elizabeth's words and recipes, but Carrie has infused them with her soul . . . Like the best kind of letter, Grandmother's Cookbook is written by hand from the heart. It has flowers pressed between its pages as a true love letter should ~ and like all love letters, it will be taken out and read over and over again.”
"To be really good at anything you have to love it," says Elizabeth in the forward of Grandmother's Cookbook. Elizabeth's recipes and country cooking style span a lifetime and are a collection from varied sources. As a nine year old school girl, she was fascinated with “all of the wonderful things” her girlfriends brought in their lunches. She and her German-Hungarian mother would experiment with these new recipes cooking on an old coal/wood stove. At fifteen Elizabeth left home to become a child's nurse and cook for a wealthy family in Philadelphia. It was there where her skills blossomed as she learned many gourmet recipes from the lady of the house. Elizabeth's expertise as a cook strengthened over the years as she prepared many delectable feasts for family and friends. All of these experiences fostered a love of cooking and baking in her.
Elizabeth and Carrie worked for two years collecting, testing and capturing for eternity many recipes garnered over the years ~ some stored only in Elizabeth's memory. As an artist, Carrie created the right look and feel for their cookbook with delicate original watercolors of wildflowers which Elizabeth so loved. The 125+ recipes are handwritten in calligraphy. Grandmother's Cookbook is spiral bound and filled with American country style recipes with a handful of old world German-Hungarian favorites. There are chapters on: Soups, Breads, Dumplings and Noodles, Appetizers and Salads, Meats and Vegetables, Desserts and Christmas Specialties. The book retails for $19.95 (plus $4.95 shipping and handling)
